Ski Vacations - Sun Valley, Idaho

Sun Valley Ski Resort’s roots are in the Old World ski resorts. Since its opening in1936, Sun Valley Idaho has been serving up that magical charm to millions of guests. It may very well be inexplicable, that certain difference, but it has something to do with seeing to it that the resort provides an all-encompassing experience, rather than just a place to sleep while you visit. The atmosophere has a lot to do with it, of course, but it’s also found in the little things that are available, such as sleigh rides, and how the horses are dressed out in Old-World style, rather than just having some pragmatic harness over them. It’s found in buildings of magnitude, and a level of service that assures you that you’re more than just welcome, you’re a cherished guest. It’s in seeing to it that all the details and moments of your stay are rich, and leave warm, lasting memories.

But that charm would be wasted if the skiing was mediocre, wouldn’t it? Trust, that will never be the case. Let’s start with the stats: Sun Valley’s mountain provides a 3400 foot vertical drop over 75 trails, covering over 2000 acres, one of which is 3 miles long! The average annual snowfall for the area is 220 inches - a bit over 18 feet of Idaho powder. Thirty-one percent of the mountain enjoys snowmaking as well. Cross country skiers have not been neglected; Nordic enthusiasts will find 40 kilometers of trails awaiting them. There are downhill runs for all levels of skier or snowboarder, of course, but advanced skiers won’t feel at all compromised or neglected. That’s just not the Sun Valley way!

In keeping with that motto, and to provide their guests with every possible desire, Sun Valley Idaho has recently added a terrain park and beautiful state-of-the-art super-pipe, which is maintained by a Zaugg Pipe Monster. The ski and snowboard Superpipe is on the skier’s left side, below Race Arena. At 425 feet long, and with walls at approximately 18 feet tall, this terrain feature meets competition standards. Also added are four rails and a wall-ride, a 23 foot C-rail, a 35 foot Flat Box, a 10 foot flat, a 15 foot down-rail, and a 20 foot square rail. The wall ride is 8 x 16 feet. Sun Valley has always prided itself on being one of the world’s best resorts, and is glad to be able to provide these new features.

Of course, education is at the heart of any sport, and Sun Valley Ski Resort is proud to provide consumate professionals in their Ski and Snowboard School as well.

What makes Sun Valley an outstanding place for your ski vacations? It’s everything, really, from the little details and signs of caring, to the huge mountain of snow, all there to ensure that your Sun Valley ski vacation is the very best ever!
